Marlborough Sports Garden is a fantastic public open space a few minutes walk from London Bridge. Now managed by BOST, we took over the management of the space from Southwark Council.
The history of the Marlborough Sports Garden owes its existence to Consuelo, Duchess of Marlborough who in decreed that “Surplus land from an insanitary area between Borough High Street and Red Cross Street should be used as a recreation ground”.
100 years later this open space remains a valuable asset for Bankside and we aim to keep it that way.
A Place For Everyone
The Sports Garden is used by the local community who value it for the role it plays in promoting the health and wellbeing of residents and as a rare outdoor space providing much-needed access to physical activity, sport, and leisure pursuits. Available for everyone living and working in SE1 to use, the park contains has a football pitch, sand court, basketball facilities, table tennis, patball wall and of course seating for those who just want to sit and enjoy the scenery in this unique space.
Hire of the Spaces
The Sports Garden is open from dawn to dusk and is free to use. It is possible to book the court for private and community hire.
