Running parallel to Tooley Street along the railway viaduct, St Thomas Street connects Bermondsey Street to The Shard, Guy's Hospital and Borough High Street. London Bridge Station, Science Gallery London, King's College London, Beckett House (Home Office) and the Old Operating Theatre Museum all open out onto this thoroughfare running east to west, and many businesses call St Thomas Street home.
A large section of the road has been closed to motorised traffic since 2012 and Transport for London (TfL) is seeking responses to their proposal to re-open the road as a one-way, access only route. Their proposal reduces vehicle traffic to prioritise walking and cycling.
St Thomas Street Boulevard was one of the Placeshaping projects identified in the
London Bridge Plan and Team London Bridge will continue our work to realise this vision of achieving a pedestrian and cycle friendly focus with an active environment that supports small businesses, shops, eateries and a vibrant evening economy.
