Suzy Lamplugh Trust offers guidance on dealing with stalking in the workplace

Last week at our Southwark Security & Resilience Forum we heard from the Suzy Lamplugh Trust on the assistance they can give employers to help them deal with stalking in the workplace.

In the UK 1 in 5 women and 1 in 10 men are stalked at some point in their lives, with 50% of victims having curtailed or ceased work as a result of it.

The Forum – set up in 2008 and run by Better Bankside and Team London Bridge – brings together the security managers of the largest (and from a security perspective most high-profile) businesses in the north of the Borough. Usually focussed on crime, resilience and counter-terrorism the presentation from Clare Elcombe Webber proved incredibly informative and explored a different, complex element of staff safety.

This document provides some useful guidance for employers on what they can do to support staff who may be victims of stalking and there is also this advice regarding general safety in the workplace – particularly for those in public-facing roles who may be subjected to violence and aggression.

In the new year we hope to have the Trust deliver training sessions free of charge for Team London Bridge members but you can of course also organise your own training through them if you wish. For more information please contact Bella Stephens-Ikpasaja bella.stephens-Ikpasaja@suzylamplugh.org
